“The rules are simple, just pick your favorite horror film for each day! However, you can’t pick the same horror film more [than] once. So once you pick say THE EXORCIST for your favorite horror film involving the powers of Hell, you can’t [pick] it again for any other day [whatsoever,] including favorite horror film.”

Day 19 – Your favorite horror film involving the powers of Hell or Satanism
Film: The Exorcist (1973) – dir. William Friedkin

All right, so not every day is going to be a shocker.  The Exorcist is an obvious pick, but I would be lying to myself, and the reader, if I didn’t pick it.

The Exorcist holds a special place in horror history, and is not only one of the best horror films out there, but one of the finest films I’ve seen.  Linda Blair is scary good as the possessed little girl, and the direction by Friedkin is spot on.  I’ve most recently seen the Director’s Cut of the film with the added ghostly images, but I’d love to give the original version another viewing to see if it holds up better without the added CGI or not.  Either way, this is one effective horror film that holds up almost fourty years after its initial release.  I’ve never met a horror fan who hasn’t seen this movie, and that’s how it should be.
