“The rules are simple, just pick your favorite horror film for each day! However, you can’t pick the same horror film more [than] once. So once you pick say THE EXORCIST for your favorite horror film involving the powers of Hell, you can’t [pick] it again for any other day [whatsoever,] including favorite horror film.”

Day 27 – Your favorite guilty pleasure
Film: Signs (2002) – dir. M. Night Shyamalan

If I get any comments saying this isn’t a horror film, I’m deleting them (not really).  Signs is another one of my favorite films, let alone a horror favorite.  Though no one else on this planet may think Signs belongs on a 30-day horror challenge, this film did, and continues to, scare the hell out of me.  Signs alone is the reason I always travel to the theatre to see films that M. Night Shyamalan directs (Avatar: The Last Airbender being the exception to the rule).  Yes, I am continuously disappointed, but that’s beside the point.

Signs had me scared even after I left the theatre, much to the amusement of my closest friends who enjoyed screwing with me.  The first couple times the aliens are revealed are images that are forever chiseled into my memory.  The sheer horror I felt when the little kids at the party in Brazil cleared the window is a feeling that has never been replicated.  I’m not afraid to admit I adore Signs, and it is my favorite alien-related movie of all-time.  I was even able to handle the strong religious message in the movie, which says a lot about the writing and direction of Shyamalan.  I won’t recommend Signs to anyone because so many people hate the movie.  That’s fine, though, because I want Signs all to myself anyway.
